This is an emerging subspecialty in our field of Joint Replacement. In this, we remove the worn-off primary joint prosthesis & replace it with a new artificial joint prosthesis. As we have seen knee replacement surgery has a very good & prolonged survival rate. With the increase in life expectancy of Indian people, they are outlasting the prosthesis. There may be prosthesis loosening, polyethylene wear, and fractures around the prosthesis due to trauma. In that situation, we need to change the prosthesis. This is a complex surgery that needs skill & meticulous planning. First of all, it is very important to identify the exact cause of the loosening of the implant. Once that is done we need to plan skin incision, approach to the joint, how to remove the prosthesis with minimum damage to the bone end, how to balance the joint ligaments, and which revision prosthesis to use.
